Short description

BigBlueButton is an opensource web conferencing system - ready to be installed on an own server. It offers live seminars, video- and audio communication, a whiteboard and even desktop sharing.

How is it used for learning?

During a blended learning course virtual classrooms are very useful to meet in an online phase. It's possible to present information (like in Powerpoint), the moderator can engage the learners to discuss a topic, also explaining a software via desktop sharing is very useful. It's really great for distance learning.

Comments

Sufficient bandwidth is still important. The reduction of data-intensive services, like video communication, can ensure the audio quality.

If you start an online conference, please plan at least 1/2 hour for technical support. There is always something to solve.
